After hopping around a few short contracts in Melbourne, I made a jump over to New Zealand and spent a year at Theta, a software development agency in Auckland.
Although I was classed as mid-weight, I was in fact the only designer in a team of more than 200 employees. Whilst most of Theta's work was on back-end SaaS systems, some of their clients had requested marketing websites including design, so Theta took me on to fulfil this requirement.
I ended up working on two major websites — Ports of Auckland and NZ Ski, as well as a few smaller projects. I also did some internal design work for Theta, including the annual report, a job I would continue to do for a few years after returning to the UK.
